I saw this article and thought, “Would work would be more fun if my work space was a typeface?” French designer, Benoit Challand must have thought so when creating “Fold Yard”, a collection of typography office furniture. What do you think?

inAs a graphic designer, we’re always working within certain restrictions. Usually, it comes in the form of a “brief.” Oh…the brief! Here, Marian Bantjes creates a new category of how to think of design, illustration, and typography. I thought many of you would get a lot out of this. Would love to hear your thoughts. inHappiness is a hot topic. The Dalai Lama has written about it, Oprah capitalized on it, and Eat, Pray, Love tapped into millions of women who felt that perhaps, happiness is found in some exotic country once you’ve reached rock bottom and let your waste line go. There’s no judgement who has the right answer. In fact, to each his own especially on this topic! But as I join the vast group of happiness seekers, I will be tromping off to Stefan Sagmeister’s exhibition “Six Things: Sagemiester & Walsh” at the Jewish museum in NYC where he collaborated with Jessica Walsh to explore and present his findings of HAPPINESS. (exhibition runs through August 4, 2013)

Sorry its been way too long since my last post! Hope all of you had a nice and restful holiday and ready to tackle 2013!
I thought I’d kick off this year with a post about New York City teaming up with Pentagram to roll out one of the things that frustrates NYC drivers the most — parking signage. How many times have you stood on the curb wondering, “what the hell does that mean?!?!”
With some editing of copy, color palettes and some good old fashion typography, Pentagram has helped NYC unclutter the streets one by one.

Whoever said you shouldn’t play with your food clearly didn’t know what food had to offer. Spain based designer Aranxa Esteve and Lucía Rallo have conjured up a playful idea of creating typographic colored jello to promote their studio. Be inspired and try giving it a go this weekend! Saw this great book by Jim Merrell called, Type Matters!. Both a typographer and designer since 1982, Merrell decided to write this book in efforts to help designers with further understanding typography. Not only is the content useful and easy to understand, but his use of type design in each layout is smart and provocative. (via Typetoken)

France based creative agency, Zim & Zou have been doing some amazing work I thought worth a mention. Working mostly out of paper, this agency has brought paper arts to the world of advertising, made social commentaries about recycling and technology as well as started an exploration of typography with the use of colored strings. With a collection of both personal and professional jobs, the range of work they display is not only inspiring, but nice to see that there is still a place for craftsmen & paper lovers out there.
